Why Angus Medical Services Was Created
Angus Medical Services was formed from a simple belief: people should have access to help when they need it.
Our founder’s experience working as a Door Supervisor and Mobile Security Officer meant regularly witnessing people becoming unwell or injured, often as a result of alcohol or drug use. Time and again, it became clear that there was a need for more support for people in these situations.
It was this experience that ultimately led to the creation of Angus Medical Services.
The Incident That Started It All
The event that finally prompted our founder to take action happened one evening while travelling to work as a Mobile Security Officer.
While driving to a job, our founder witnessed two young men with a group of young women crossing a main road. The two men began to fight, and when one was punched in the face, they fell to the ground, striking their head. The other person involved ran from the scene.
Concerned for the injured person’s welfare, our founder stopped to offer assistance.
On reaching the individual, they found that he was unconscious and bleeding from the back of his head. The young women with him were attempting to contact the emergency services but were struggling to communicate the situation clearly.
Our founder provided the first aid they were able to give and spoke directly with the ambulance operator. Unfortunately, at that time there were no ambulances immediately available, although the ambulance service assured them that one would be sent as soon as possible.
As the incident had taken place in the middle of the road, police officers also attended. They attempted to obtain an ambulance but were unfortunately met with the same situation.
The officers ultimately made the decision to transport the injured person to hospital themselves.
For our founder, the incident highlighted the pressures faced by emergency services and the importance of having appropriately trained people available to provide immediate assistance while waiting for further help.
It was also a reminder that behind every incident are real people — the injured person, their friends and family, members of the public, security staff, police officers, ambulance crews and everyone else affected by what has happened.
That night was the turning point.
Our founder decided that something could and should be done to provide additional support to people in these situations.
And so, Angus Medical Services was born.
Our Mission
Our work is centred around three key aims:
To Save Lives
To provide professional first aid services at public events and, where appropriate, provide a first response service to support members of the public and Door Supervisors.
To Advance Health
To support the physical and mental wellbeing of members of the public, working alongside existing emergency services and other organisations where appropriate.
Our aim is to provide an additional layer of support and early intervention, helping people receive appropriate assistance as quickly as possible.
To Support Public Welfare
We aim to provide welfare services that can help reduce avoidable harm and support people in difficult situations.
This can include welfare provisions designed to:
- Support people affected by alcohol or drug use
- Help reduce public nuisance and the impact of excessive noise
- Support measures intended to reduce the risk of spiking
- Promote safer choices and responsible behaviour
- Provide practical support to people who may otherwise be at increased risk of injury
- Provide footwear for people who have removed their shoes because they are uncomfortable or causing pain
By providing appropriate welfare and early intervention, we aim to help reduce avoidable pressure on emergency services and other public services.
Our People
Angus Medical Services is built around people helping people.
We are a friendly, approachable and like-minded team, with experience across the medical, event, security, safety and facilities industries.
Our volunteers and team members bring different skills, experiences and backgrounds to the organisation, but we are united by the same goal — to help others and support our communities.
We believe that being approachable is just as important as being professional. When someone is frightened, injured, unwell or simply needs a little help, having someone friendly and willing to listen can make a real difference.
